Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa review

Director: Declan Lowney; Screenwriters: Armando Iannucci, Steve Coogan, Rob Gibbons, Neil Gibbons; Starring: Steve Coogan, Colm Meaney, Felicity Montagu, Sean Pertwee, Simon Greenhall; Running Time: 90 mins; Age Rating: 15
Steve Coogan's comedy creation Alan Partridge has proved to be versatile in his 20 years of broadcasting. With Partridge being the star of T.V shows, autobiographies, web series and documentaries it was inevitable that the Norfolk DJ would eventually make his way to the big screen. Although the DJ has proved to be outstanding comedy in each of these platforms, does Partridge perform well on the big screen.

I think it's pretty safe to say that the Norfolk DJ carries the comedy onto the big screen in incredible fashion. Alpha Papa sees the Norfolk DJ still broadcasting with 'Sidekick' Simon but the station is in the midst of a takeover from Gordale Media. In worry of being fired himself Alan decides to promote the idea of firing late night DJ Pat Farrel. After Pat is fired he go's on a shotgun rampage taking many of the stations employees as hostages, and demands that Alan acts as the middle man between Pat and the police.
Although it takes some use to seeing Partridge on the big screen (as the format is very different), one the siege is under way you quickly get use to Partridge's new look. The film also plays on the siege aspect of the movie with the DJ having dreams about becoming an action hero.

The hostage incident provides a dilemma for Partridge. As the face of the siege Partridge is thrust back into the limelight, and he has to make the decision whether or not to work for the corporate Gordale Media or carry on broadcasting as he used to do.

The film is hilarious and fares as well as the popular Inbetweeners Movie in it's translation to the big screen, therefore I think it is a movie that is worth your time and money.

I give Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa an 8 out of 10.
