Top 10 Shocking Videogame Deaths

SPOILERS AHEAD

10. Lucy (Assassin's Creed Brotherhood)

In a series of dramatic conclusions Assassin's Creed Brotherhood's ending is probably the most shocking. Lucy who has been by Desmond's side for 3 games is killed off by none other than Desmond himself. It turns out Lucy was a double agent for Templar organization Abstergo.

9. Dom (Gears of War)

Although the Gears of War franchise is not particularly known for heartfelt moments but Dom's demise in Gears of War 3 was an extremely sad and shocking moment. When Delta Squad find there back's against the wall Dom sacrifices himself so that the others could live.

8. Ghost/Roach (Modern Warfare 2)

Although you may be tired or annoyed at the ongoing success of the FPS Call of Duty but cannot argue the out of nowhere deaths of Ghost and Roach were not shocking. In a betrayal from Shepard both Ghost and Roach are shot and burnt to death. However it makes the finale all the more satisfying when you exact revenge on Shepard.

7. Roman (Grand Theft Auto IV)

Although completely avoidable Roman's possible death in GTA IV is an absolute shocker. After going ahead with a deal with evil Russian Dimitri Rascalov Niko attends Roman's wedding. As the couple walk outside Dimitri in a drive-by attempt on Niko accidentally shoots and kills Roman on his wedding day.

6. Eli Vance (Half-Life 2)

At the end of Half-Life 2 Episode 2 we were left on a cliffhanger that has never been resolved. At the end of Episode 2 when our heroes are seemingly escaping using an old helicopter, however two Advisors break in and restrain both Gordon and Alyx as they helplessly watch as Eli is brutally murdered by one of the Advisors. As the screen fades to black we see Alyx clutching her fathers dead body.

5. Andrew Ryan (Bioshock)

Bioshock is a game full of plot twists that will make your jaw drop, but none bigger then figuring out you are a pawn in a big scheme. In a final confrontation with a villain in a game you usually expect a big boss battle, but in Ryan's case he asks you to kill him. As you wail away at Ryan with a putter it's hard not to find the situation slightly disturbing.

4. Anyone from Mass Effect

In the open ended sci-fi epic anyone can die, even the main character. What makes the death of any of the characters shocking is that you are so emotionally invested in all of them and to see them killed off  so suddenly is pretty surprising.

3. Carly (The Walking Dead)

Although The Walking Dead videogame series has a number of deaths that could be put on the list, this one takes the medal. In an intense scene of interrogation we see Lee's recently acquired love interest Carley shot by Lilly all of a sudden, in a cruel twist by Telltale.

2. Joker (Batman Arkham City)

In a bold move by Rocksteady at the end of Batman Arkham City the Caped Crusader's most famous adversary was killed off at the conclusion of the game. I'm still not fully sure if the Joker is really dead or not but to kill off the previous two games main villain was a shocking move.

1. John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)

In a soul crushing finale, Rockstar's open-world masterpiece kills off it's main character in gory fashion. In a betrayal by FBI boss Edgar Ross Marston's ranch is invaded by lawmen and in a sacrifice to save his family Marston is rained with bullets, and his distraught family finds his lifeless body.
