Despite poor box office numbers in the U.S, the film did outstanding internationally which means the Guillermo Del Toro directed monster movie could be developed into a franchise.
It became Warner Bros. most successful fil in China taking in more than any of the Harry Potter films. It has currently grossed $229 million in the global box office with it yet to release in Brazil, Spain or Japan
